Turning the Page :: The Rescuer Has Come!

In September, we started on this journey of reading the bible together – The Story. This reading is a chronological reading to help us see the flow of the story of the bible. The whole bible. The whole family. The whole church. We wanted you to be able to hear the Word, understand it and then “do it.”

Did you know that you can communicate the whole story of the bible to someone in three minutes, or less? I realize that none of you think I can do this, but I still think you can. Here is the core of The Story:

  • God, in the community of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), wants to be in community with human beings.
  • Sin entered the human spiritual DNA and destroyed the community people have with God and with one another.
  • The rest of the bible is a story about God winning us back to himself beginning with Abraham and a new nation and continuing with Jesus and the church.
Everything we’ve read is pointing us to our need for a Savior. The Savior is the Messiah and has a name. His name is Jesus. Jesus is the answer to the longing that you’ve felt as you read about failures and shortcomings of the people of Israel. God is about to deliver on his biggest promise – the promise of rescue.
You may have found yourself struggling to get “caught up” in your reading, but you are getting a lifeline today. As we turn the page to the New Testament, just pick up and start at Chapter 22: The Birth of a King. You can go back later and pick up the parts you missed, but as of today, you are officially caught up, if you read Chapter 22 before Sunday.
