Day 2 :: The Theme of My Song (Reprise)

Glory to Jesus
Ancient and strong
Giver of love
And the theme of my song
Glory to Jesus
Ancient and strong
Come to your people
And carry us home

I love reprises and this one particularly gets my juices flowing. The drum and the baseline build the lyrics above. The entrance of the reminder of “Deliver Us” reminds me that there was a great need prior to this birth. This life would be the sacrifice that would let the judgement of God “Passover Us.” Now can I do anything but “sing out for joy for the brave little boy who was God but made himself nothing, he gave up his pride and he came here to die like a man.”

So rejoice, ye children, sing
And remember now His mercy
And sing out with joy
For the brave little boy is our Savior
Son of God,
Son of Man

Shouldn’t seasons like Christmas and Easter be a type of reprise for the song that God has written in our lives? They may be the hooks, but they aren’t the full story. When done well, they provide us with a certain type of affirmation. The dictionary describes reprise as “the further performance of something.” I like that. When you think you’ve exhausted the story, there is something further. It’s a bonus, but it’s a wrap and celebration of all that came before.

So...what do you think?
